International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) is an annual event, observed globally on December 3rd, established by the United Nations (UN) to raise awareness about the challenges faced by persons with disabilities and to promote their full and equal participation in all aspects of society.
The World Health Organization (WHO) joins the UN in observing this day each year, reinforcing the importance of securing the rights of people with disabilities, so they can participate fully, equally and effectively in society with others, and face no barriers in all aspects of their lives.
This date provides an opportunity for governments, organizations, and communities to come together to raise awareness, promote inclusion, and take action to improve the lives of persons with disabilities. It serves as a platform to advocate for the rights and dignity and well-being of persons with disabilitie.
The theme for IDPwD 2024 is: “Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future”.
