D1Ce Screen goes into action: how to identify diabetes and celiac disease in one pic!

The D1Ce Screen project, showed at the European Researchers' Night, is being implemented in four Italian regions with the aim of assessing feasibility and technical-organizational aspects of the national programme for pediatric screening for type 1 diabetes and celiac disease, established by the law 130/2023. Screening allows the detection of these two diseases at an early stage and in the absence of symptoms with a simple blood sample from the fingertip, to intervene early and reduce mortality and complications. To support the project and its dissemination, a website and information material have been created to promote awareness of the prevention of these diseases.

The role of Telefono Verde AIDS and IST of the Istituto Superiore di Sanità - National Institute of Health in Italy - in the communication on COVID-19 pandemic in Italy; a lesson learned
The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a relevant health emergency with a significant impact on the social relations. Over the three years of the pandemic (2020-22), The AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Infections telephone (TV AIDS and IST) - 800 861061 -managed by the Istituto Superiore di Sanità (National Institute of Health in Italy), has provided, through the methodology of telephone counseling, interventions aimed at responding to the information needs of users on the pandemic. In the period from March 2020 to December 2022, 1.304 telephone interventions, including 418 by users who requested information on COVID-19 and 886 by users requesting mainly information relating STIs but which were provided with information on the potential disease risk, were gathered and analyzed.

Clinical and microbiological characteristics of invasive group A Streptococci infections in Italy
In Italy, reports of invasive infections by Streptococcus pyogenes (group A beta-hemolytic streptococcus, iGAS), are on voluntary basis and collected by the STREPTO-ISS group. Starting in late 2022, there has been an alarming increase in iGAS infections globally and the Ministry of Health issued two circulars urgirg greater participation in reporting. Between September 2022-June 2024, 642 iGAS infections were reported and 195 bacterial strains were sent to STREPTO-ISS, mostly isolated from blood. The emm1 type was the most common, and its hypervirulent variant M1UK outnumbered the wild type. Resistance to macrolides was about 7%. This study represents the largest national investigation on the clinical and microbiological characteristics of iGAS disease carried out to date and has highlighted the importance of institutionalized and constant surveillance program.
