The final EUROCARE-6 database contains about 28 million records of patients diagnosed with cancer in Europe from 1978 to 2013 and followed up to December 31, 2014.
Overall, 117 population-based cancer registries (CRs) from 31 European countries (EU27 and EFTA countries) supplied their data, 8 of them were collecting childhood cancers only (ages 0–14 or 19) and 13 registries were gathering information only on specific cancers (haematological, digestive apparatus, etc..).
Adult (15+ years) population coverage is 100% in 23 countries (Finland, Denmark, Norway, Iceland, Ireland, UK-England, UK-Wales, UK-Scotland, UK-Northern Ireland, The Netherland, Austria, Belgium, Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia, Cyprus and Malta) and partial in 6: France (23 CRs), Germany (7CRs), Italy (39 CRs), Portugal (3CRs covering nearly the whole population, 98%), Spain (9CRs) and Switzerland (5CRs). Overall, the EUROCARE-6 study covers 64% of the population of the 29 participating countries (477 million inhabitants in 2020) and 52% of the EU-27 population (22 Member States out of 27; more specifically Greece, Sweden, Hungary, Romania and Luxembourg are missing).
The population coverage for Childhood cancers is complete (100%) for 28 European countries (the same 23 CRs providing data on adult patients plus France, Germany, Greece*, Hungary*, and Switzerland). Only Italy, Portugal and Spain don’t cover the whole national population. The EUROCARE-6 study covers 85% of the European paediatric population (0-14 years).
